The following link is going to look very familiar to you in a very short period of time. Sweetners such as splenda, sucralose, aspartame (this is the worst), and even stevia are being linked to neurological deficiencies, one being depression. Working with patients, I can also say that when you drink your diet soda, to get you through your day, you are artificially adding Oxygen to the brain, while adding a plethora of unhealthy chemicals to your cells. I had a patient go to the ER for an unusual gut case from Stevia. He was told to abstain all sweetners from his diet for life.
For anyone who is looking to lose weight, sweetners are the worst. All sweetners, for the most part, are over 5 times sweeter than sugar which signals to the brain the potential release of insulin. If insulin circulates in the body, your body's chemistry drops sugars causing cravings. Moreover, high insulin in the body at any given time can cause your body to store fat and to that point, not mobilize any fat out of your cells. You are better off drinking straight black coffee for any caffeine, in moderation of course!
Read this article and keep a look out for many more. For me, I look at dozens of lab values a week to realize that low glycemic nutrition with organic foods and no sweetners is the best way to go!
