For Instructors
Numbers

I?m presenting a new workshop this year at WSSC entitled Count On It. The session is based on the theory (and belief) that classroom goals and activities are best communicated through numbers. Number values are clear to everyone and they don?t involve the use of slang or overly technical language. They also help to reduce instructor word use which is a high priority to students wishing to absorb more music and less talk.
There are many ways that we instructors can help clarify, define, and expand upon both short and long range goals by using numbers including: counting the seconds, giving an overview of the minutes remaining in a movement, challenging the participants to complete specific amount of jumps, or defining pedal stroke ranges for the various terrains used during a ride.
The lecture and ride will offer some easy to use in-class activities that can be included in almost any profile design structure.
