Power of Thoughts

Power of Thoughts…Power of Imagery

“Your thoughts shape your reality…” Imagination is more powerful than the will.  Your images are a blueprint that shape your performance. See it. Believe it. Do it.
Run positive pictures on your mental TV” These are all quotes by Dr. Saul Miller

Difficulties can arise at any time in life. Being aware of this and accepting the fact that things can happen, will help you get through the process of life. Should you come across what might feel like an obstacle at
times, you might consider trying a simple affirmation ~ a few words to repeat to yourself ~ that can give you the strength and patience needed to get through the challenge.

Affirmations such as… “This is only temporary” no matter how uncomfortable you may feel during this time, the experience can be an opportunity for growth in more ways than one…Physically, Mentally, Emotionally and Spiritually.

When you feel Physically challenged ~ The bicycle is a curious vehicle. Its passenger is its engine.” ~John Howard

When you feel Mentally challenged ~ Life
is like a ten speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use”
. ~ Charles M. Schulz

When you feel Emotionally challenged ~ “Endurance
is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory” ~
William Barclay

When you feel Spiritually challenged ~ “A bicycle ride is a flight from sadness” ~ James E. Starrs

To enhance your Spinning® and/or cycling experience in your teaching or personal training, you will want to become more aware of how your thoughts can influence your performance.  You will also want to develop a plan of power thoughts that will really make your experience a memory never to be forgotten.

Creating the “right” feelings, such as ease and power, and by using proper breathing techniques you can reach any goal in life. Becoming aware of the thoughts you create while striving to achieve your goal(s) and tuning into on your mental television and the feelings and images you bring to your mind can help you perform at your highest potential. Every one of us is a performer in some way. As a Spinning® Instructor, Enthusiast, or Cyclist, you perform even better by improving your focus and programming.

Training your mind is like training your body. When striving to achieve a certain goal, over time you create a plan, put in the effort by following a physical training program to obtain an aerobic base and improve your breathing and strengthen your heart. You have been working on your anaerobic base to strengthen your legs and your upper body for power and climbing. You have been eating properly to condition your body to utilize proper stores of energy at the right times. Now it’s time
to implement your mental program.

Start by creating power words to help build your strengthen your confidence and your self-esteem. These
words should be strong enough to create a feeling and a picture that will increase your power, direction and potential.

Just like with your physical routines, repetition builds strength.  Repeat often the words you choose to create your reality.  Mentally rehearse your goal. Imagine your
performance and the end result. Once you choose your power words chain them together to make a script by selecting desired feelings, thoughts and affirmations. Here are some examples:

I am finding a rhythm, using the riders in front of me for pacing

I climb seated, standing when the incline gets steeper. This is fun! I love this!

As I reach the finish I know I will have given my best effort.

Affirmations that call out your strengths and highlight your potential might be…

I am very strong. I am a climber.

I use my breath to turn the wheel.

I see opportunities.

I use my breathing to pump and smooth.

Most of all remember why you decided to ride...be it indoors or out.

What are some of powerful thoughts that get you through your challenges?
