Think Positive; Suffer Less

A study published in The Journal of Pain concluded that women who believed they could push through an intense cycling workout reported feeling less muscle pain than cyclers who doubted their ability.

Drink to Your Health

Have a drink. Several new studies are proving the benefits of moderate alcohol intake (no more than one drink per day, less than seven drinks a week):

  • Drink to your heart: According to a study from a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, moderate drinking raises HDL (“good”) cholesterol, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

  • Drink to your Pancreas: Moderate drinking can help regulate your insulin levels, lowering risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a study published in Obesity journal.

  • Drink to your joints: Research presented at the 2007 European Congress of Rheumatology in Barcelona indicates that alcohol may dampen inflammation and suppress the body’s immune response that can lead to rheumatoid arthritis.
