In this day and age, the 4th of July really does encompass what Founding Father John Adams wanted. Adams said “the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance....It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”
Today at Headquarters, we had the pleasure of participating in an American tradition and barbecued! Although, there were no fireworks (hopefully next year we can have those) it was still a fun time! Craig Jackson, HR & Facilities Administrator, got the grill going with delicious food! A huge thank you to Craig for grilling for hours and even recruiting his daughter to come help set up! There were hot dogs, sausages, burgers, turkey burgers and veggie burgers (for those Vegetarian's like myself)! We also had beans with bacon, Vegetarian beans, fruit and salad.Yum yum yum!
It was a great way to celebrate the Independence of this beautiful country that we live in! Let's not forget about all of the people who have sacrificed for the freedoms that we have everyday. Sometimes we take our freedoms for granted and yes, it is easy to do. So as you're barbecuing or watching fireworks, remember that this country hasn't always been free. Let's think about those who in 1776 signed the Declaration of Independence and helped create traditions that we still have today! Hold/hang/wear your American Flag gear with pride! Spend some time with your family and enjoy your day off! I personally, will be enjoying my freedom at the beach with another BBQ! I wish everyone a very happy and safe Independence Day!
